SOLD……..A little, well made snuff box in the form of a book. Mid 19thcA fine birds eye maple? snuff box with integral hinge and tortoiseshell lining. The back of the box has been inlaid with three raised black bands in ebony so that it resembles the bound spine of a book. A well made little box 5 x 3 cm ( 2 x 1 inches ) In excellent condition. A very charming little basket which is made of varnished white wood painted in the chinoiserie style which was popular in the early 19th century

There is no damage although the original varnish finish has a few minor scuffs and there is some staining to the edges of the paper lining of the lid (see photos)

silver case for pencil leads

Originally it would have contained an almanac but are more often seen fitted as a needle case having been given a new lease of life by the thrifty needle woman

A blind filigree stiletto / awl with a steel point for piercing holes in fabric

The silver has some light scratching and the spring is strong

The ribbon is all there including the little turned bone end stop and it is also printed with a leaf pattern below the numbers
