Mordoree, Lirac Reine Bois RougeI previously reviewed the 1998 Lirac Cuvee de la Reine des Bois prior to bottling, and it is living up to my expectations. It exhibits a dark ruby purple color as well as a moderately intense nose of black fruits, licorice, spice, pepper, and smoke. Displaying moderate tannin with exceptional concentration, it will benefit from 1 2 years of cellaring. It is one of those rare Liracs that will age for 10 15 years.

Offering a beautifully structured nose with layers of complexity

At least some patience required

This certainly doesn’t lack for character though there isn’t much elegance

which showed very balsamic with notes of dried herbs

wet stone and a touch of the sauvage

Enticing flavors of black cherry

but was aged two years in 100% new French oak

Shows precision and tension
