Frederik Vermehren (Circle), Portrait Of A GirlThis charming late 19th century portrait depicts a girl wearing a blue dress, gold earring and a cross pendant. Its rendered beautifully, particularly the skin tones with their subtle gradients. Note also the dimple in the cheek. The painting is unsigned, as many were, but its highly likely that the artist trained under Frederik Vermehren at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen. The portrait exhibits several of his nuances, although the

There’s a satirical element and perhaps the painter was also an illustrator
