We love the way shes peering to one side perhaps a little awkwardly. She seems like quite a shy lady or maybe shes just looking forward to wearing something more comfortable. A fine late-19th-century portrait of a fashionable society beauty by French artist

It’s reminiscent of a Claude Monet and perhaps it was created en plein air

A light-filled rural landscape painting depicting a group of field-hands resting under a large oak tree

Signed and dated in the upper right

which dates to the 18th-century

Craquelure throughout but the paint layer is stable under varnish

The buildings seem to lurch into the scene and our lowdown viewpoint gives them an extra gravitas

The portrait is unsigned but it’s clearly by a competent hand

The painting is a celebration of the natural world and it still brings a moment of calm as it originally sought to achieve
