It was previously owned and probably commissioned by, the ships commander, Richard Nigel Gresley (1850 1928). HMS Nautilus was an 8 gun training brig, built at Chatham dockyard in 1879, and commanded by Gresley between 1882 and 1885. During the 19th century, training brigs were
