This was resolved by disconnecting the battery power to the canbus and connecting the G3 ACC instead so that the canbus also turns off when the vehicle is off

IMPORANT: YOU MUST SET THE A/C TEMP MANUALLY ON THE ORIGINAL HEAD UNIT BEFORE REMOVAL
