Fish Out Of WaterImagine looking up at the clouds and seeing a shape come to life before your eyes a convincing illusion you know isnt real. This is my normal. Elyse is a Neurodivergent (AuDHD), Queer, Disabled artist with lived experience of trauma. In 2023, while studying Psychology Honours, Elyse underwent what was meant to be a low risk medical treatment. Since then, they have experienced hallucinations and visual disturbances layered over their AuDHD perception.

The spark of connection is mysterious and hard to define - yet it’s something we all deeply crave

but finds drawing and painting particularly effective in filtering out the noise in her mind and helping process her thinking

My art is a central part of how I express myself

she started painting and found it a positive way to cope with her intense emotions

exploring the joy of mark-making and the play of contrasting colour

Kanghyun rediscovered art as a means of personal healing from trauma
