Hair tended to be tied into low chignons at the nape of the neck with loops or ringlets covering the ears

The snowy track winding its way vertically is beautifully observed and it reflects a subtle pink

The painting is monogrammed in the lower left and housed within a 19th-century gilded frame that’s probably the original

He probably knew Leader well because Sherrin’s son
