Anatolian Oushak Design Silk CarpetTurkish carpets, also referred to as Anatolian carpets, were produced by many ethnic and tribal groups in Turkey and Central Asia. Deriving originally from a utilitarian need to insulate homes against harsh winter cold, these rugs covered doors, walls, and floors, often in layers, for city or nomadic tent dwellers alike. The carpets whether hand knotted or flat weave were always hand made (by women and girls) out of wool, cotton, and sometimes silk.
